Floral Wedding Favors

wedding favorsFlowers are synonymous with wedding so what better gift for your wedding favors then one with a floral theme? Here are just a few ideas for floral wedding favors which you could give to your guests.

Flower seeds – an obvious one really! Choose varieties which match those flowers you have ordered for your wedding, just make sure that they can be grown in the local climate or grown successfully indoors. Exotic flowers may not do so well in a colder climate!

You will find packets of seeds available from may favor stores & you can customize the packet with your names, wedding date & monogram. Alternatively buy your seeds in bulk from a garden center & present them in little tins with a personalized sticker on top. If you wanted your seeds to be presented in a more natural way, purchase some Hessian bags or linen ones in a natural color to put your seeds in. Just make sure the fabric weave is not too open or all the seeds will fall out!

Miniature Potted Plants – for another nice favor idea why not give small potted plants? Look for miniature roses, violets, primulas, gerberas & violas. Put them in nice terracotta plant pots or ceramic ones from a wholesaler & add some ribbon & a thank you tag.

Flower Bulbs – a box of two bulbs is a nice natural gift or if you are green fingered you could get them started yourself at home & present them in small pots ready to plant on. Varieties of daffodil, narcissi & tulips are popular choices.

Candles – for a non natural favor try candles in flower shapes such as tulips, blossoms or roses. As an added bonus buy floral scented ones.

Alternatively buy tea lights & present them in flower shaped holders.

Scented Sachets – make some scented sachets to place in drawers or to hang in wardrobes. You can make them from scraps of fabric such as silk, satin, velvet or linen & fill them with dried lavender, rose buds & potpourri. You can then trim them with ribbon, lace or beads as you like. You can also make some for the male guests by using fragrances such as cedar or sandalwood.

Decorating with flowers – if you would rather decorate your wedding favors with flowers instead of giving a floral themed favor then there are a number of options to choose from.

Flower designed packaging – look for rose embossed boxes, boxes made from flower patterned papers or even boxes shaped like flowers.

Flower embellishments – add some silk or paper flowers to the top of your boxes or use fresh flower heads. You must remember to add these as late as possible to stand a chance of them not wilting before the reception. Try using large gerbera heads on top of boxes for a modern touch. Or rose buds for a romantic wedding style.

Stickers – design or purchase some flower stickers or labels for your favors. Another idea is to use ordinary stickers & add a floral motif or graphics to them.

CD Wedding Favors

Burning your own CD wedding favors has been a popular choice for many couples. However, it is not without its pitfalls!

Firstly you need to consider what to put on it. Some choose the playlist for their wedding reception, whilst others choose songs that have special meaning to them. Whatever you choice I would suggest choosing a broad range of songs from across many genres so that there is something for everyone on it. And as wedding favors are supposed to a personal gift with a touch of your own personalities in them, try to include a few songs that have some meaning to yourselves.

There is of course the problem of copyright. In recent years burning CD’s at home & file sharing online has resulted in many people being taken to court over copyright issues. It is still something a grey area as to whether or not burning CD’s to give as wedding favors is in breach of copyright. It may be better to find songs which are out of copyright, but then this will limit your choice.

Another problem is the sheer number of CD’s you may have to burn. If you regular burn disks at home you may be all too aware of how long it can take to complete to just one, let alone a couple of hundred! If you don’t have the time or the patience to do them yourself, then look around for a professional to do it for you. They will be able to do it much quicker & probably produce better sound quality as well.

Finally you will need to consider how you present your CD’s & the design of the cases. Most will be familiar with the plastic cases, known as jewel cases, usually seen encasing a CD. Most blank CD’s don’t come with these days, particularly if you buy them in bulk. But if you do get the cases you can make up artwork to in the front, back & down the spine of the case.

Many couples opt for simple card sleeves which they can design themselves. Have a look on the internet for some which you can run through your printer or for a template so your can cut out your own.

When it comes to design, keep them in a similar vein as your wedding stationery, include your names & wedding date & a track list on the back. This way they will coordinate with your overall wedding scheme.

If you decide to chance the copyright laws & make your own CD wedding favors, you will be creating something that is unique & personal to you. Music is a great gift idea & this type of favor always has appeal.
